Samuel Sessions Dominey Jr.

Samuel Sessions Domin-ey Jr., 78, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2009 in Atlanta, Ga. He is survived by his wife Peggy, son Craig and his wife Connie, son Todd, his wife Heather and their children Drake and Sophia, cousin Carolyn Trimble of Brewton, Ala. and Arthur Hermann of Columbus, Ohio.
Sam was born October 25, 1931 in Ozark, Ala. to Sessions and Eloree Dominey. He graduated from the University of Alabama with an MBA in finance, was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity and Phi Beta Kappa Society, and was a passionate Crimson Tide football fan throughout his life. Sam served in the U.S. Army from 1954-1956, stationed in Germany. He then worked with his father at the family Chevrolet dealership, Dominey Motor Company, in Ozark.
Upon his father’s death in 1958, Sam took over the company and ran it until 1972. He then moved to Atlanta and became a true entrepreneur, working as an investment counselor, bank director, finance instructor at Mercer University, and manager of various real estate and securities interests.
Sam and his family enjoyed vacations at the Big Canoe mountain community in North Georgia, inspiring Sam to sell lots there and design unique mountain homes, including his own. He also loved fishing, golfing and riding his pontoon boat with his beloved Wheaten Terrier, Bailey. He served on the boards of Big Canoe Chapel and the Homeowners Association. A man of strong Christian faith, Sam was an active member of St. Luke’s Presbyterian Church, Peachtree Presbyterian Church and Big Canoe Chapel. Sam’s family will always love and remember him as a selfless man of integrity and honesty, devoted to his family and Lord, and a true Southern gentleman whose words and deeds will live on as examples to his children and grandchildren.
Burial services were held on Saturday, January 2, at 1 p.m. at Big Canoe Chapel Cemetery, followed by a memorial service on Monday, January 4, at 1 p.m. at Peachtree Presbyterian Church in Kellett Chapel. The family asks that donations be sent to Big Canoe Chapel or Peachtree Presbyterian Church. H.M.
